Join us at Miss Eva's Detroit for an intimate cocktail class that blends hands-on mixology with Detroit's rich cultural history. Learn to craft signature cocktails, discover the stories that shaped our city, and celebrate Black-owned spirit companies making their mark today. Each class is limited to small groups for personalized, one-on-one instruction.
My grandmother, (Mrs.) Eva Franklin, ran Shrimp A Go-Go in Idlewild, Michigan—a historic resort town that served as a safe haven for Black families during segregation. Her shrimp shack was more than a business; it was a gathering place, a source of pride, and part of a larger story of Black entrepreneurship and resilience.
Detroit Spirits and Stories honors that legacy. After over 20 years as an educator in Detroit schools, I wanted to create something that blends my passion for teaching with the cultural history that shaped me. At Miss Eva's speakeasy, named in my grandmother's honor, I teach cocktail craft while sharing the stories of Detroit's unsung heroes and the Black-owned spirit companies carrying that excellence forward today.
Every class is personal, intentional, and rooted in both education and heritage. This isn't just about making drinks—it's about connection, celebration, and keeping our stories alive
"I believe everyone can learn to make great cocktails with the right guidance. In each class, I work with you one-on-one to build your skills and confidence—just like I've done with students throughout my career in education."
